Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my participation last?
Participation in SOL VIDA will last for 8 days.
How much should I exercise while participating?
This study is interested in your typical daily activities. You should not change your routine while participating in SOL VIDA. If you typically exercise, it is okay to engage in the same activities during your participation. However, if you do not typically exercise, it is not expected for you to engage in any additional activities.
What devices will I be required to wear? How do I wear them?
For your 8 day participation period, you will wear 3 devices. These include: a GPS (black) and ActiGraph (red) worn on a belt and an activPAL (orange) adhered to your thigh.

The belt should be worn during all waking hours and may be taken off when going to bed.

The activPAL will be worn 24 hours a day, including in the shower and while you sleep.

*A small group of participants will have a 4th monitor called the ActiCal (grey) attached to their belt.
Do any of the devices need to be turned on?
If receiving the materials in the mail, the black monitor will need to be turned on when first wearing the belt. To turn it on, set the monitor to LOG. Once in the LOG setting, do not change the setting, even when taking the belt off for the night.

This is the only monitor that needs to be turned on.

Do any of the devices need to be charged?
The black monitor will also need to be charged. Each night when getting into bed, take off the belt and plug the black monitor into the provided charger. There is an opening near the bottom of the pouch to insert the cord. A green light should turn on to indicate the monitor is charging. The monitor should be left in the LOG setting.

This is the only monitor that needs to be charged.

What if I can't wear one of my devices for a day or two?
If you are unable to wear a device for an entire day, you do not need to restart your 8 day wear period. Begin re-wearing the device as soon as you are able and make note of the device and time missed on your participant materials.
My activPAL came off. How do I put it back on?
If your activPAL comes off your leg at any time, you may use the replacement adhesive materials to put it back on.
Once reapplied, make a note of the time the activPAL was taken off and put back on using the activPAL Non-Wear Log.
The following video provides step by step instructions for putting the activPAL back on.
How do I fill out the time logs?
Bed Log

During your participation, you should fill in the Bed Log to document the time you spend in bed each night. Record the time you first get into bed for the night and the time you get out of bed in the morning. You do not need to record times for naps or instances in which you wake up in the night.
Work Log

If you are working either part or full time, you will receive a Work Log from the SOL study staff. Record the date and times for the beginning and end of your work day in the appropriate boxes. You do not need to record breaks unless the break lasts longer than 1.5 hours.
If you work multiple jobs or shifts, additional space is provided to record the start and end times. If jobs/shifts begin less than 1.5 hours apart, you do not have to record this information as a new shift.
The following video provides additional information on filling in the logs.
Will I receive a payment for my participation?
Upon completion of all study activities you will receive compensation. Please contact the SOL study staff for any questions related to compensation.
Who should I contact if I have questions?
If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please contact the SOL study staff as soon as possible. The appropriate contact information will be listed on the bottom of your Participant Instructions.
